Graphic Design Officer

Reports to:  FLWG/A6PA – Director of Public Affairs

Unit:  SER-FL-001

Reviewing Official:  A6, Chief of Staff

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing visual solutions for a wide variety of formats and dissemination outputs.

  • Work with customers to define project requirements and provide advice on best processes and procedures for optimal visual presentation.

  • Design visual products for conveyance via mobile devices, web, and print.

  • Responsible for a wide-range of routine-to-complex projects such as: charts and graphs, flow diagrams, infographics, presentation visuals, illustrations, publication design, cover designs, brochures, posters, and logos.

CAP Directives:

The Graphics Design Officer should be familiar with the following directives:

  • CAPR 190-1

  • CAPR 900-2

  • CAPR 110-1

  • CAPR 110-3

  • CAPP 152

  • CAPP 201

  • CAPP 1-2

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade of Captain / Technical Sergeant or above.

  • Senior rating in the Public Affairs Specialty Track.

  • Experience with the Adobe create suite of tools, such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work and interface with customers, coworkers, and leadership.

  • Knowledge of production tools and methodology and a strong technical aptitude to quickly learn new software and hardware.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, and working in a Windows environment.

  • Very strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail.

  • A highly professional demeanor, positive outlook, and a can-do attitude.

  • Reside within the Wing. Infrequent, temporary absences of short duration are permissible.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Grade of Major/Master Sergeant or above.

  • Master Rating in the Public Affairs Specialty Track.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with strong emphasis in graphic design

  • Ability to shape and lead solutions to data visualization in an increasingly complex and changing technological environment.

  • Strong creative portfolio demonstrating good use of typography, grid-based design, white space, and color theory.

Selection criteria are based on Civil Air Patrol training, experience, and participation, as well as civilian education and experience related to the position.
